Solutions
Some
solids dissolve in water to make a solution.
These solids are soluble. A solution is made
from a solute (the solid) and
a solvent (the liquid). When a solution is
formed, the liquid is always clear (it is transparent
- you can see through it).

Solids
that do not dissolve are insoluble. When an
insoluble solid is mixed with a solvent it will go cloudy.
Sometimes the solid will sink to the bottom of the container
containing the solvent. Milk contains insoluble particles. You
cannot see through milk so it is not a solution. A solution
is a mixture and it is possible to separate
the solute from the solvent by evaporation.

methods for separating different types of mixtures are shown
